Judo Alberta "Phase 4"

“Cohorts” under the Government of Alberta COVID-19 Regulations will be limited to 50 members. Each Judo Class is considered a “Cohort”. Coaches/instructors will try to maintain 2 meter social distancing with all participants.

Classes being offered for 2020/2021 Season are as follows:

  • Little Ninjas (Age 4-6)

  • White Belt Jr (Age 7-15)

  • Colour Belt Jr (Age 7-15)

  • Adult/Seniors (Age 16-99)

  • Women’s Only (Age 11-99)

 Arrival & checkin

LOCATION: The Judo Club is located at the Indoor Turf in Shell Place. Enter through the East Entrance of Shell Place. Keep going left, down a small set of stairs, through the glass doors until the Indoor Turf on the right.

As per MacDonald Island Guidelines, Members and Spectators should not arrive sooner than 15 minutes before class.

Dirty/muddy/wet footwear must be removed at the entrance to the Club. Anyone wanting to play on the Indoor Turf in the few minutes before class MUST have a clean, dry pair of running shoes. No bare feet on the turf as it will turn your feet black!

Absolutely no one is allowed on the Judo Mats before class begins.

All Members and Spectators must sanitize hands before entering the Club.

Spectators must follow 2 meter social distancing measures at all times.

Members of the same Cohort are allowed to have full contact during class on the mat.

CHECK-IN: A registration table will be set up at the entrance to the club in order to adhere to COVID-19 Guidelines. Every participant must check-in at the registration table so please allow time for this. A volunteer will measure everyone’s forehead temperature, ask COVID-19 screening questions (refer to Club COVID Screening Form/Log), verify Emergency Contact Information for Junior Members, and assist Head Instructor with verifying Trackie registrations and obtaining signatures on Liability waivers if necessary. Please note, if anyone has a temperature not in the normal range or is showing symptoms of illness, the volunteer will ask the Member/Family to not enter the Judo Club and to follow Alberta Health Guidelines for self-quarantining and COVID-19 testing.

Members must use their Judo Bag to store all belongings during class, including coat, snowpants and other gear during the colder months. There will be a designated area for Judo Bags during class. MacDonald Island Guidelines require changerooms to be closed, therefore we recommend that Members must arrive wearing their Judo Uniform (Gi) and making a suitable effort to keep it clean during travel.

Members MUST have a water bottle with them for class, which they will keep nearby during class on the mat. There is a water bottle filling station, but there is no access for drinking water directly by mouth.

Class start

Classes will always begin on time. All Members are expected to be on time for class.

Late members will have to do a set amount burpees before joining the class!

Parents and siblings watching the class must be seated and quiet during the entire class.  Spectators do not count towards the cohort limit of the class and must maintain 2 metre social distancing.

The Judo Mats are off limits until the Head Instructor starts class and invites Members on. When at the Judo Mat, it is important to remove footwear and step directly onto the mat, NOT on the green turf. We will use a Crash Mat “Bridge” to ensure clean access onto the Judo Mats.

When class begins, the Head Instructor will review the COVID symptom checklist and other protocols such as showering and washing Judo Uniform after class.

MacDonald Island washrooms are accessible. During class, members will not be permitted to use the washroom unless it is an emergency.

Judo Mats and Crash Mats are cleaned (swept) and disinfected (sprayed and wiped with Quat Plus solution) before and after every class and stored against the wall. Benches, sporting equipment and Gi rack used during class will be cleaned and disinfected and returned to the Storage Room. Used loaner Gi’s and extra belts will be put in a hamper at the end of class to be laundered.

Class end

Head Instructor will dismiss class and remind everyone to shower and wash their Judo Uniform as part of COVID-19 Guidelines. Members and Spectators must quietly and calmly gather their belongings.

Members and spectators must sanitize their hands when leaving the Club.

MacDonald Island Guidelines require one-direction traffic therefore everyone must exit through the side doors of Shell Place closest to the Indoor Turf.

Emergency action plan

IN CASE OF COVID-19 INFECTION

The Outbreak Coordinator is a Member within the club that will ensure the Judo Club remains a safe place to train by following COVID-19 Guidelines from the Government of Alberta and MacDonald Island.

COVID-19 INFECTION SUSPECTED OUTSIDE/AFTER TRAINING

A Member, or parent of a Member, that attended the Club and later discovers that they have symptoms related to COVID-19 is required to report these symptoms to the Outbreak Coordinator.

The Outbreak Coordinator then must:

  • Inform Glenna Green of MacDonald Island of the situation

  • Identify which classes the Member attended, which Members had direct contact during training and phone the Member(s) or Parent of Member(s) to inform them of possible exposure and to follow Alberta Health Services Guidelines for self-quarantining and COVID-19 testing

  • Ensure cleaning and disinfecting procedures were completed thoroughly after the last class and/or or follow the instructions from MacDonald Island

  • Consult with MacDonald Island Park and Alberta Health Services to determine if any measures need to be put into place before continuing with the next class and if the entire Membership or Board of Directors needs to be informed

COVID-19 INFECTION SUSPECTED DURING TRAINING

If a Member begins to feel unwell during class (show symptoms as defined on the AHS website including but not limited to fever,  cough, difficulty breathing, sore throat, runny nose or vomiting) they must:

  • stop training immediately

  • move to the isolation area (stairwell next to mats)

  • put on a mask (provided by the Club)

Make sure the person is not in respiratory distress and follow first aid procedures.

Notify the Outbreak Coordinator if not already involved to handle the situation

The Outbreak Coordinator then must:

  • Pause class – everyone must distance themselves, sit down and remain quiet and still

  • Phone Emergency Contact (if Member is under 18) for immediate pick up and attention OR ensure Member has a way directly to their home - Note that it is not acceptable for a person showing symptoms to take public transportation

  • advise the Adult Member or Parent of Junior Member to follow Alberta Health Services Guidelines for displaying symptoms of COVID-19 which will include self-quarantining and having the COVID-19 test

  • inform Glenna Green of MacDonald Island of the situation

  • End class – quietly and calmly, Members and Spectators must gather their belongings, sanitize their hands and leave MacDonald Island. Remind everyone to have a shower and wash their clothing and Judo Uniform.

  • Clean and disinfect the space or follow the instructions from MacDonald Island

  • Identify who the Member had direct contact with during training and phone the Member(s) or Parent of Member(s) to inform them of possible exposure and to follow Alberta Health Services Guidelines for self-quarantining and COVID-19 testing
